INTRODUCTION

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion a Singleplayer RPG with almost endless options to do what you want. The game is tested on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit with Crossover Games 10.0 with this beast. It is highly recommendable using a Nvidia card when gaming on Linux. It might work with newer ATI card but it require further tweaking and disabling eyecandy from the game.


INSTALLATION

Insert The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion DVD into your PC.

Launch Manage Bottles.
(Applications tab —> Crossover Games —> Manage Bottles)

[Add] a new bottle called Oblivion.

Select Oblivion entry. Click [Applications] tab, press the [Install Software] button.
Under [Runtime Support Components] and install this:

  • DirectX 9



    • Next, press the [Install Software] button again, but this time,
    Choose Unsupported Applications —> Community Supported Apllications —> Other Applications

    Then press the [Select an Installer] and click on the The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion DVD.
    Click [Install].

    EXPANSION PACK

    Insert The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Shivering Isle DVD into your PC.

    Install it under Oblivion bottle.

  • Horse Pack
  • Knights of the Nine
  • Mehrunes Razor
  • Orrery
  • Spell Tombes
  • Thieves Den
  • Vile Lair
  • Wizard’s Tower



    • Double click on DLC .exe and install it on Oblivion bottle.

    PATCH

    Download patch 1.2 for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

    Double click the patch file and install it under Oblivion bottle.

    TROUBLESHOOTING


    BLACK SCREEN

    The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will become black screen if the Screen Effect is set to HDR. Either use None or Bloom.

    You can change it in Options —> Screen Effects.

    INTRODUCTION

    Gratuitous Space Battles is very simple to install on Linux with Crossover Games. Simple make a Gratuitous Space Battles bottle and install it there. This guide will show you how. Tested on Ubuntu 10.10 with Crossover Games 10.

    INSTALLATION

    Launch Manage Bottles.
    (Applications tab —> Crossover Games —> Manage Bottles)

    [Add] a new bottle called Gratuitous Space Battles.

    Exit Crossover Games.
    Double click on Gratuitous Space Battles.exe and install it under Gratuitous Space Battles bottle.



    EXPANSION PACKS

    Double click on Gratuitous Space Battles and install them under Gratuitous Space Battles bottle.

    INTRODUCTION

    Heroes of Might and Magic 5 + the two expansion packs on Ubuntu 10.10 with Crossover Games 10. It’s relative easy to install, but you may disable screensaver/power manager. If you are away from the game, thte screensaver/poer manager will kick and freeze your computer.

    INSTALLATION

    Insert the Heroes of Might and Magic 5 DVD into your PC.

    Launch Manage Bottles.
    (Applications tab —> Crossover Games —> Manage Bottles)

    [Add] a new bottle called Heroes 5.

    Select Heroes 5 entry. Click [Applications] tab, press the [Install Software] button.
    Under [Runtime Support Components] and install this:

  • Microsoft DirectX Runtime – Modern



    • Next, press the [Install Software] button again, but this time,
    Choose Unsupported Applications —> Community Supported Apllications —> Other Applications

    Then press the [Select an Installer] and click on the Heroes 5 DVD.
    Click [Install].

    EXPANSION PACKS

    Insert Hammers of Fate – Install it on Heroes 5 Bottle.
    Insert Tribes of the East – Install it on Heroes 5 Bottle.

    PATCHES

    Download Heroes of Might and Magic 5 patches: Download Here

    Double click the patch and install it in Heroes 5 Bottle.
    Do this until your game is patched up to 1.06.

    TROUBLESHOOTING

    You have to disable compiz to play Heroes of Might and Magic 5.

    Sometimes the game minimize when launching.

    WHAT DOES NOT WORK

    The Map Editor.

    INTRODUCTION

    World in Conflict and Soviet Assault on Ubuntu 10.10 with Crossover Games 10. It’s highly recommendable running this with a Nvidia cards for best performance and less headache.

    INSTALLATION

    If you haven’t already installed steam, download Crossover Games file for Steam (.tie file – “Install via CrossTie”): Click here.

    Double click on the .tie file and then the Crossover Software Installer pops up – Click [Proceed].

    When Steam is installed and you have logged into steam, download World in Conflict and afterwards World in Conflict: Soviet Assault.

    Next, you need to install a Windows library to the Steam Bottle. Download it to your Desktop: Click here to download.

    Open the terminal and type;

  • cd ~/Desktop
  • cp -r dxdiagn.dll ~/.cxgames/Steam/drive_c/windows/system32



    • Next Click on the Steam bottle, go to [Control Panel] tab and press [Wine Configuration].

    Click [Libraries].

    Write: d3d10
    under [New override for library] and click [Add]. Now press the [Edit] and select [Disable].

    Write: dxdiagn
    under [New override for library] and click [Add].

    TROUBLE SHOOTING

    You may need to disable Compiz to run World in conflict for the first time. Then set World in Conflict resolution as the same resolution as your Desktop. Then you can run the game without disabling Compiz.

    Aliens versus Predator, an awesome game that works out of the box with Crossover Games. Tested on Ubuntu 10.10 with Crossover Games 10.
    A good idea to have powerful video card for this game.

    INSTALLATION

    If you haven’t already installed steam, download Crossover Games file for Steam (.tie file – “Install via CrossTie”): Click here.

    Double click on the .tie file and then the Crossover Software Installer pops up – Click [Proceed].

    When Steam is installed and you have logged into steam, download Aliens vs. Predator.

    When launching the game remember to pick Aliens versus Predator – DirectX 9.

    INTRODUCTION

    Elven Legacy + all expansions on Ubuntu Linux with Crossover Games 10. The installation of Elven Legacy is not so hard, but I’m writing it anyway as there may be some who find it hard.
    Elven Legacy is a great Turn-based Strategy that can be hard if you strife for perfection (Gold medal in every quest).
    As with other Crossover Games/Wine or linux games for that matter; It’s high recommendable with a Nvidia card for best result and less pain on Linux. This guide have been tested on this beast.

    INSTALLATION

    Insert Elven Legacy DVD into your PC.

    Launch Manage Bottles.
    (Applications tab —> Crossover Games —> Manage Bottles)

    [Add] a new bottle called Elven Legacy.

    Select Elven Legacy entry. Click [Applications] tab, press the [Install Software] button.
    Under [Runtime Support Components] and install these:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
  • Microsoft Vidual C++ 2005 Redistrbutable
  • DirectX 9



    • Next, press the [Install Software] button again, but this time,
    Choose Unsupported Applications —> Community Supported Apllications —> Other Applications

    Then press the [Select an Installer] and click on the Elven Legacy DVD.
    Click [Install].

    PATCH

    Download Elven Legacy Patch (1.0.9.3): Download Here

    Double click the patch and install it in Elven Legacy Bottle.

    EXPANSION SETS

    Insert Elven Legacy: Ranger – Install it on Elven Legacy Bottle
    Insert Elven Legacy: Siege – Install it on Elven Legacy Bottle
    Insert Elven Legacy: Magic – Install it on Elven Legacy Bottle

    MAP EDITOR

    Insert Elven Legacy, double click on MapEditor_setup.exe and install it under Elven Legacy Bottle.

    TROUBLESHOOTING


    INSTALLATION ERROR
    If it complains/error on installing on one of the Expansion. Close Crossover Software Installer/Manage Bottles. Open the Expansion DVD. Double click the setup.exe and install it that way.


    ERROR WINDOW
    If an error window popup when launching Elven Legacy saying:

    WMI: pIWben Locator -> ConnectServer failed: 0x80041001

    Click on the error window and hit [enter] afterwards. The game will start.

    INTRODUCTION

    The guide shows you how to install and run Ghost Master. Ghost Master is one of the most underrated games and it really deserves more attention. Sadly it seems there’s no real market for such games. It’s an unique game in the same category as Dungeon Keeper – More games of these, thanks!

    This is tested on Ubuntru 10.10 with Crossover Games 10 with a Nvidia card.

    INSTALLATION

    If you haven’t already installed steam, download Crossover Games file for Steam (.tie file – “Install via CrossTie”): Click here.

    Double click on the .tie file and then the Crossover Software Installer pops up – Click [Proceed].

    When Steam is installed and you have logged into steam, download Ghost Master.

    RUN GHOST MASTER WITHOUT STEAM

    There’s a mod which enhance the gameplay of Ghost Master but also allow you to run Ghost Master without starting Steam up.

    Download it here: Click here

    Double click the .exe file and you’ll be greeted by Crossover Software Installer. Choose [Steam] in the [Will install into the bottle..] menu. Thereafter click [Proceed].

    It should automatically detect where Ghost Master is installed.

    RUN GHOST MASTER WITHOUT COMPIZ

    Open the terminal and type;

  • mkdir -p ~/.Games
  • nano ~/.Games/GhostMaster.sh



    • add the following;
    #!/bin/bash

    metacity --replace &
    "~/.cxgames/Steam/desktopdata/cxmenu/StartMenu.C^5E3A^5Fusers^5FPublic^5FStart^2BMenu/Programs/Ghost+Master+(All+Ghosts).lnk"
    compiz --replace &

    [ctrl]+[o]: Save
    [ctrl]+[x]: Exit

    Now setting up a launcher;

  • chmod +x ~/.Games/GhostMaster.sh
  • alacarte

    • Edit the current Ghost Master (all Ghost) entry to;

  • sh -c "~/.Games/GhostMaster.sh"


    • TROUBLE SHOOTING


    NO VISIBLE CURSOR
    This is a little bit tricky, it’s almost hide’n’seek to change the settings with an invisible cursor.

    In Ghost Master Options go to Display and click the Enhance Cursor button. Then the Accept button.
    Now you’ll have a cursor.

    WHAT’S NOT WORKING

    Ingame movies don’t work.

    INTRODUCTION

    This guide shows how to install Dragon Age with CrossOver Games. It should work with all linux flavors and is tested on Ubuntu 10.10 with Crossover Games 10. Crossover Games is not free and cost $39.95. It’s highly recommendable using a Nvidia card to play games in Linux.
    All the information I have found and gathered throughout the web and placed them in this guide so even Linux newbies can understand them.

    INSTALLATION

    Insert Dragon Age DVD into your PC.

    Download Crossover Games file for Dragon Age (.tie file – “Install via CrossTie”): Click here

    Double click on the .tie file and then the Crossover Software Installer pops up – Click [Proceed].

    Now relax and how Crossover Software Installer configuring, downloading and installing all needed software.

    PATCHES

    The next thing that is needed is to patch up Dragon Age. Download the latest Dragon Age patch: Dragon Age: Origins 1.04

    Double click on the .exe patch and you’ll be greeted by Crossover Software Installer. Choose [Dragon Age_Origins] in the [Will install into the bottle..] menu. Thereafter click [Proceed].

    DISABLE COMPIZ

    It’s a good idea to disable compiz the first time you run Dragon Age the first time. If Dragon Age runs a different resolution than your Desktop the effect of this would look funny.

    Press [alt]+[F2] and write:

  • metacity --replace

    • Start Dragon Age, in the ingame options set the resolution as the same as your Desktop. Exit Dragon Age.

    Press [alt]+[F2] and write:

  • compiz --replace


    • TROUBLE SHOOTING

    NO SOUND

    Edit: ~/Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/Settings/DragonAge.ini

    Change
    “SoundDisabled=1”
    to
    “SoundDisabled=0”


    TRANSPARENT PORTRAITS

    Applications tab —> Crossover Games —> Run a Windows Command

    Type:

  • regedit



    • Browse through the list:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER —> Software —> Wine —> AppDefaults —> DAOrigins —> Direct3D

    Right click add New string. Right click it and click modify.
    Type: UseGLSL
    Right click ‘Modify Binary Data’
    Type: enabled

    BLURNESS

    Disable ‘Frame Buffer’ in Dragon Age ingame options.

    WHAT DOES NOT WORK

    Dragon Age Game Editor.
    Save Game Screenshots (big deal :-P).
    Online Download Contents – Just do it manually instead.
